The wine distillates which make up this spirit of distinction are aged for up to 7 years to give METAXA7* a golden colour and a full-bodied, raisiny, sweet taste. The House of Metaxa's long history and expertise in blending create a brandy that is rich, smooth, and balanced, perfect for sipping on its own or in cocktails. The depth and complexity is considerably improved, with the sweet floral notes becoming richer and fuller. A descendent of silk merchants, Spyros was used to the finer things in life and had sampled many wines and spirits whilst on his many journeys across the world. The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England.To create Metaxa Five Star, Spyros started by blending the finest matured wine distillates he could get his hands on with the selected sun soaked grapes from Attica. Metaxa is sweeter than your usual brandy as it's blended with Muscat wine sourced from the Aegean Islands and infused with rose and anise. but officially it's a 'Greek Spirit Drink' as botanicals such as Meditteranean herbs and rose petals are added as part of the finishing process - a pot-still brandy made from native Greek grapes is aged for a nu ber of years - the 'stars' on each label determines the length of time in cask, so in this case an aging for 7 years - before marrying with aged Muscat wine and an infusion of Mediterranean herbs and rose petals for a further 12 months.
