About this deal

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is zippy in the extreme. Top-tier shooting skills are inherited from the Galaxy S23, too. The main sensor produces consistently detailed stills in almost all scenarios, while the telephoto snapper zooms with impressive clarity. With a huge 64MP main sensor, the G30 does have one of the highest resolution cameras at this price point. It deploys nifty algorithms to deliver 16MP photos, using the extra data to strip out noise, boost details and grab more light. It works impressively well in daylight, but less convincingly after dark. Only one of its secondary snappers is worth your time: the 8MP ultra-wide is noisy but usable. The panel is still top-tier, with a sharp 2316×904 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and wonderfully vibrant AMOLED colours. It copes brilliantly outdoors in direct sunlight, boosting north of 1100 nits with High Brightness Mode (HBM) enabled. That’s up there with the very best foldables, and not far off the top mainstream flagships.

The current PS5’s internal chipset is said to be rather large. A die shrink from the original 7nm processors to the new 3nm fabrication technology being touted by TMSC, the company that actually makes the AMD-designed chips, could save a lot of space. Because the chips would run cooler, they could use a smaller heatsink, in turn letting Sony shrink the console. Fingers crossed any such move would also cut down on noise as well. Some people call this awareness "mindfulness". Mindfulness can help you enjoy life more and understand yourself better. It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges. Being at the lower end of the market means you’ll have to make some compromises, but as we mentioned in the introduction, affordable smartphones are much better than they used to be (so you won’t be getting an unusable slab).

Definition of stuff

Simple: they offer outstanding sound quality across the board. Few earbuds at any price can match their combination of accuracy, detail, punch and fidelity. The soundstage is large yet well-defined. Dynamic potency is considerable, rhythmic expression is naturalistic, and the overall tonality is entirely convincing. In short: if you’re willing to ignore their shortfalls in exchange for the best possible sound, you need to hear the AONIC Free. It’s seriously snappy in almost every scenario; apps opened almost instantly, multitasking was never an issue, and a few minutes of 4K video recording didn’t suddenly turn it into a furnace. Performance is on par with the immensely capable Galaxy S23 Ultra, which bodes well for gamers as well as those looking to get work done. Whether we were playing on the cover screen or the larger internal one, even demanding titles defaulted to their highest settings and ran pretty much flawlessly. Throw in reasonably fast (though far from groundbreaking) 25W charging, and you’ve got yourself a more affordable Samsung handset that provides the highly coveted Samsung-esque experience, at a far more palatable price. Bigger gains have been made on the inner panel, which has slightly skinnier bezels this time around. It’s still a 7.6in AMOLED panel, with a 2176×1812 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, but a brightness booster puts it on par with Samsung’s Galaxy S23 line-up of traditional flagships. While the Z Fold 4 managed 1000 nits in HBM and 1300 nits peak, the Z Fold 5 hits a claimed 1200 nits and 1750 nits respectively. Fully cranked it gives plenty of punch to HDR film trailers, with dramatic highlights alongside deep shadows.

Want the Samsung prestige without the high-end price tag? Then the A54 5G is a contender worthy of your shortlist. With a price tag well below the lofty heights of the Galaxy S23 range, this is a mid-range handset which sacrifices some flagship style and power, while still providing a solid smartphone experience. Another impressive feature that wipes the floor even with truly high-end flagships like the Apple iPhone 14 and Samsung Galaxy S23, is its charging speed. Namely, a full 120W charging capability that can produce a full charge in under 25 minutes. Impressive stuff. Nippiness aside, this Wear OS-powered smartwatch also delivers on the all-important battery front too, with a 628mAh battery promising up to 80 hours of use per charge. It can top itself up from 0-65% in just 30 minutes as well, which is much faster than most. Sure, there are some signs of the compromises required to reach its price point. Its plastic build doesn’t break the G-series mould, while the 2MP macro camera is little more than a token addition. The Snapdragon chip inside won’t set any benchmark records, either. With a mighty Snapdragon 860 chipset and dedicated gaming tools on-board, the Poco X3 Pro is one of the most powerful cheap phones on this list. Its processor can handle almost anything, even power-hungry games like Genshin Impact (provided you drop detail down to medium).Where the G30 excels is battery life. Pairing a beefy 5000mAh cell with a power-efficient CPU translates into impressive longevity: 48 hours between charges isn’t hard to manage. We think the Google Pixel Fold has an edge on camera image quality – although neither foldable has the versatility of some traditional flagship phone cameras. There’s also a sense Samsung played it safe this year, at a time other brands are launching much skinnier handsets. If you take lots of pictures with your phone, then the camera is a key feature to look at. Cheap phones often compromise on the camera – you won’t be getting an quadruple camera systems or superzoom lenses here, but you can get a decent main and selfie camera. We’re not sure how you’ll feel about the rear plastic panel on the Poco X5 Pro 5G. A diffuse plastic affair that does well with repelling fingerprints, its style and texture weren’t exactly to our reviewer’s taste — but design is subjective. You’ll want to decide on a budget and a manufacturer, of course, but also bear in mind the differences in design and sizes on offer. Some smartwatches can feel very large on the wrist, while others are designed to be more subtle and are better suited to those with smaller wrists – or buyers who simply want a smartwatch they can hide beneath a shirt sleeve.

f/1.7 26mm + 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide + 2MP, f/2.4 macro + 2MP, f/2.4 depth-sensor rear w/ phase-detect autofocus (main sensor only), LED flash. 13MP, f/2.2 frontThe addition of luxuries like wireless charging and a 90Hz refresh rate, missing on the outgoing Pixel 6a, mean you’ll struggle to find a better all-round Android experience for less.
