About this deal

The FiiO X3 III can also be used as a DAC for a computer, much as the bigger sibling the X5 3rd Gen. It needs a USB cable for the connection and it allows to play the music on the PC using the X3 III as the source. Alas, the FiiO X3 III does not seem to work as a DAC under Linux as the FiiO X5 3rd Gen does – as confirmed by FiiO themselves – nor under macOS. ProGuard P2+1: The X3 is a bit warmer than the Nova 3 and iPhone, but with better clarity and a presentation that has better instrument separation, which results in conveying more detail. Bass is also more powerful and the overall presentation is smoother and more refined. 7/10 If your headphones are generally not exaggerating in tonality, but, also do not impact hard, then this is a fantastic portable choice for you. If you are okay with strapping a musical amplifier to it while on the go, I highly recommend doing so. As before you have two levels of settings on the X3iii, Play and System Settings. Play will control functions such as gain levels, volume, gapless, channel balance, and line-out mode.

screen timeout is 30 s, 40 s, 50 s, 60 s, 90 s, 120 s or “on”– meaning the screen will not turn off automatically; My XRK Uber + X3II combo sounds very good and combined with the excellent UI, the experience is very enjoyable. I’d like to see the hardware used in the design that is friendlier to alteration in the next model. I found the FiiO X3 III to sound neutral and to couple well with most headphones I own. Its sound is balanced and it does not lean towards any particular colouration, thus being able to reproduce all genres without any bias. In short, the FiiO X3 III appears to be well-designed and not to have any flaws that make music sound differently from what it should. The X3 is perfectly balanced. At first blush it might sound ‘dark’. It isn’t. It renders a flat, full-figured signal. Low/high balance at the frequency and stereo levels is exemplary. Ditto distortion. I find that the biggest presentational emphasis of the X3iii is in its low-end and vocal presence with a slight lower treble emphasis but not as dominant as,say, the M3s. It does push out vocals a bit more than the X1 2nd gen for sure and its planted warmer bass response will stand out a lot more than previous iterations. Bass Design-wise the Mark III is a huge step up from the older shape of the X3ii. It looks far more modern and slimline than the two previous X3 generations. For those that have seen, used or own asecond-generationX1, the X3 Mark III form factor is very familiar. In fact, face down you could argue that the Mark III is a blown-up X1 Mark II.

It also offers bi-directional Bluetooth capabilities. Meaning, it can stream Bluetooth in an output format to something else, perhaps another player, or a speaker, or it can stream input into the player itself and listen to another source entirely through a Bluetooth connection. The numbers do also suggest a significant step in dynamic range over the older X3ii’s numbers with an increase by up to 6db (107db versus 101db) on the line-out performance. Perhaps a validation for the dual DAC implementation. My assumption here is the power has been dropped a little to bring in a wider range of efficient IEMs that simply do not need a high level of power and prefer to focus instead on detail and dynamics. The void bubble of sound coming at you is so well balanced and snug. I enjoy it very much subjectively. But, the stage doesn’t play well with the relaxed midrange appeal on a flat EQ. Meaning, if the mids were more bloomed and more forward, this X3II could have been one of the best intimacy lovers portable players I’ve heard in a while. Like its smaller sibling, the X3iii will facilitate cables with in-line controls. Might not seem a big deal but when you realize not all DAPs out there do that, such as the HiBy Music R6 then it does seem relevant to mention it. Given its portability and attraction to IEM users a non-Android in-line control feature is pretty valuable. Scroll Wheel SensitivityThis review was written about two months after first receiving the X3. I was supposed to take only a month. If you hear nothing more out of me, Oyaide have probably... Like the previous generation X3 the new X3 Mark III does not have any onboard memory. Instead, you have a single micro SD slot to the left side panel for cards up to 256Gb official. Very few if any earphones out there should stump the X3’s amp section. It is most comfortable with earphones that average >8Ω under load, but is more than capable even below that. I tried it in balanced mode using the Asura 2.0s and the Monk Plus SPC. When used in balanced mode, the FiiO X3 III has a wider and deeper soundstage and a superior sense of space. Instrument separation is also better, with instruments more clearly defined and taking each its own spot. This is no “night and day” difference, but it’s noticeable. Final Thoughts

Audio Earz AUD-8X: The X3 is closest to the Clip+ presentation, but is a bit brighter while still retaining bass quantity and punch. Spatially, it is slightly larger than the iPhone, RoCoo, Nova, and Clip+, and while closer, it doesn’t have the spatial presentation of the DX50. There is no hiss with the 8X. 6/10 The Gadgeteer's Bill Henderson wrote that the X3 supports more music formats and higher resolutions than iPod. However, he noted that the front face of the X3 "is a confusing array of buttons" and that the screen's resolution is low, although readable. He praised FiiO for releasing software updates that improve the X3's various aspects, as well as the support for external storage. [8]

Like the previous generation X3 the new X3iii does not have any onboard memory. Instead, you have a single micro SD slot to the left side panel for cards up to 256Gb official. LA Times noted that the player's sound quality was superior to similarly priced music players, portable players included. [5] If there is a pitch out of that is that FiiO controls their own destiny when it comes to their DAPs. The X3 3rd gen is the first X3 developed completely in-house and manufactured 500m away in their purpose built factory. Both the DAP hardware and now the software is made in Baiyun, Guangzhou. The FiiO X3 is the clear winner here, the Vocals in the Andes are about the same with the elevation but are much warmer and actually have a slight less detail and resolution. The warm coloration of the Andes is also even more so than the X3. The entire range of frequencies is also more separate on the X3, where the Andes is more compressed together. The X3 is not only a more neutral amp, but also a more transparent one. FiiO has inserted anOPA1622 based amp stage into the X3iii. This is another product from TI and is actually quite new being launched only last year. Impedance matching is not super low, around 1-1.5Ω for both its balanced and unbalanced outputs. That should be low enough for most efficient IEMs to sound “correct” and true to their tuning. Power
