About this deal

Chapter 4 – Sicily: Meet Renaldo (Antonio Banderas) as he guides our heroes on a perilous underwater treasure hunt! Catch up with Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge on location in Sicily and explore the caverns, traps, and bugs surrounding Archimedes’ tomb. Disc 5 – which is where we discover the meat of the matter, with some genuine artefacts and treasures to be unearthed.

All four films look spectacular on Blu. No question. The first three were awarded a 4k scan of the original negative, although it was Raiders that received the most meticulous preservation and restorative work, mainly in view of the fact that it was going to have an IMAX theatrical presentation. The incredibly fancy (and, truth be told, a little more expensive) Steelbook format is the only choice for those needing a physical media release that doubles as a table tennis bat in a pinch. If that's you, [...] The box doesn't seem particularly robust; it's not as bas the CBS/Paramount Mission: Impossible box but it's a wonder why Paramount didn't offer Musical clarity for all four films is exemplary with the detail of Williams’ lush and complex orchestration finding deliberate spacing and separation and finite detail afforded the exotic percussion, the celestial qualities of the harp and the more delicate specialised use of the strings and the woodwinds. Each score now sounds better and more enveloping than ever before. As with the other 4K discs, the menus here are identical to the previous Blu-ray release. Extras on the disc include the following:Note that the menus here are identical to the previous Blu-ray releases. Which means this 4K disc also includes the following extras: A glimpse at upcoming UK Steelbook release dates until early 2024: here’s what’s getting the fancy treatment and when. Paramount and Lucasfilm have released these films a number of times on home video now, most recently on DVD (in 2003) and Blu-ray ( Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the first to arrive on the format in 2008, followed by original trilogy in 2012). And now, at long last, all of these films have been re-scanned and remastered in native 4K for release in a new Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection on Ultra HD. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny follows the adventures of Indiana into the 1960s. Although he tried to put his life of adventuring behind him, he donned the hat and whip again to stop Nazis from stealing a dial with time-travel properties. His adventure leads to him meeting his goddaughter, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), and his old pal, Sallah (John Rhys-Davies).

and the skull. Small studio logos and legalese line the bottom. The spine brings over a squashed version of the map, the film's title as presented onThe new English Dolby Atmos mix from Ben Burtt delights yet again here. As with the earlier films, the soundstage is big and wide up front, with expansive use of the surround and height channels for immersion. Dialogue is clean, Williams’ score is offered in outstanding fidelity, and the panning is smooth and natural. The fight aboard the boat (when we first catch up with adult Indy) is an assault on the ears, with crashing waves sweeping in thunderously from seemingly every direction. Subtle cues abound—softly chirping birds during the establishing shot of Marshall College, for example, the clamor of anxious students in the surrounds when Indy skips out on his office hours, or the airy echo of conversation in the church library. The canal chase in Venice is a highlight too, as the freighter’s spinning propeller chops Indy’s boat into pieces. Gunfights, cannon fire, the Nazi rally in Berlin, motorcycle chases, air combat, the belly of the zeppelin with its distant humming propellors, the metallic rumble of the interior of the tank—there’s great spacial work in virtually every scene. This is a brilliant object-based surround mix. Additional audio options include Spanish, French, Italian, and Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital, and Japanese and Russian 2.0 Dolby Digital. Subtitles are available in English, English for the Hearing Impaired, Cantonese, Danish, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Dutch, Norwegian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Finnish, Swedish, and Thai. No issues with dialogue, directionality or score. This one thunders along with just as much intensity as its predecessor, employing the full speaker set-up with absolute precision and a furious desire to engage the viewer in the onscreen action. I love the directionality and clarity of the popping cork and disguised gunshot in the Club Obi-Wan. With their lossless makeovers, the first three Indy adventures now have the truly engrossing, all-channel accompaniment that we always wanted from them. These aren’t vintage productions that had limited scope and invention in the sound department, so there is nothing inherently bogus about the immersive qualities they now possess. They were always meant to sound dynamic and detailed and larger-than-life. We already knew that Crystal Skull would sound amazing, because we’ve heard it lossless before. The soundmix for this outing appears to be the same as previously. No need to go over that then. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray on December 5, 2023.

Indiana Jones: 4-Movie Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray review

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) followed five years later. While the plot (involving Nazis and the hunt for the Holy Grail) can feel like a retread of Raiders… at times, the arrival of Sean Connery as Indy’s father not only serves to add some more depth to Harrison’s character, but also results in some terrific comedic moments. More good stuff to found here. Same vein as before. The story, the casting, the shot and the stunts. There was more humour in this one, and this was naturally a deliberate choice after the grim antics of Doom. Connery reveals that his closest scene with “Junior”on the Zeppelin was performed with both himself and Ford sans trousers beneath the table, and the trials of shooting the tank scene – which was typically very slow moving when compared to the charging horse – is also given some detailed analysis.
