Simply beautiful! I have loved the Old Bear books since I first read them as a child and it is great to see them being re-released for a new generation. This collection contains five wonderful stories complete with gorgeous illustrations. I highly recommend the collection.

Recognized in both publishing and TV, Jane Hissey is best known for her children’s book series Old Bear & Friends. First published in 1986, it later became the inspiration for BAFTA award winning TV series Old Bear Stories. Old Bear— an old dusty teddy bear, Old Bear is the sensible one who likes to sort out problems and keep everyone happy. He likes to look after all the other toys and loves reading them a bedtime story at the end of the day. [1] Old Bear is based on a real teddy bear the author, Jane, received from her grandmother when she was a baby. [2] I'm going to go out on a limb and give it the full five stars. The story is sweet and well-told, but the illustrations--oh, those illustrations!--they're absolutely gorgeous. A note at the end says it might take her a year to produce a book, because of the quality of the illustrations, and I believe it. Stun-ning, and absolutely apt for this charmer of a tale. This is a great story of toy friends working together to rescue the teddy bear abandoned in the attic.This definitely gets a big thumbs up from me, and I intend to keep this book as neat as possible so that it will last a long time. The Naughty Cats— the main antagonists. Five toy cats who cause a lot of trouble for Ruby, Blue and Blanket but Blanket knows how to get them to behave themselves. The book is full colour throughout with beautiful illustrations, and stories that your kids will love. Ruby— a little toy mouse with a knitted red jumper. She is very good at doing almost everything but sometimes she is a little too enthusiastic when tying bows or blowing up balloons, and does not know when to stop. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind. Ruff— a bouncy toy dog.
