About this deal

This book is told from two perspectives, where Gregg first gives his version of what happened and his feeling about what they were going through, and then Gina gives her versions. Most of the time the two versions are totally different. Gregg, in his early teens, thoroughly hated his father and his father’s deceptive and downright mean machinations, while Gina, a few years younger, was more of a Daddy’s Girl, until she eventually smartened up too. I never thought that I could enjoy a book about mob rat Henry Hill, but this one written by his son, Gregg, and his daughter, Gina, kept my interest and gave me a vivid account of two poor kids “on the run.” Despite being under the supervision of the Feds, Hill became a violent drug addict and began dealing drugs to support his habit. According to Gregg Hill, his father constantly cheated on his wife, Karan, and he even got married again to one of his drug buddies while he was still married to Karen.

As for Karen she divorced Hill in 1990 and it was finalized in 2002. It is not known where she is now.

Just a few years,” she said, like a few years was a long weekend. That was my mom, trying to make something very big sound very small. “It’s just temporary,” she said. “Just a temporary situation.” My mom used that expression for everything bad that happened. In time, I would grow to hate those words. Gregg and Gina spent their childhoods with parties in their house full of drugs, sex, and mobsters or when Henry was in jail, visiting him. Gregg never really had a close relationship with his father. He saw what was going on and wanted no part of it. Gina idolized her father and it wouldn’t be until much later that she saw him for what he was. His first arrest came when he was 16 years old and he carried out the Lufthansa raid after serving a six-year prison sentence in the Seventies. I don’t know how long we’d lived there before my mom told me Dad was leaving. But it was about the same time he’d bought me Baby Alive, this doll that you could feed pretend baby food and her mouth would move, like she was chewing. My dad was always buying me dolls. He’d say, “Whaddya want, Princess?” and I’d say, “Barbie’s swimming pool!” or something like that, and the next day or the day after, he’d bring it home. That’s who my dad was to me then, a wonderful man who brought me dolls and called me Princess. Hill, Gregg and Gina (2004). On the Run: a Mafia Childhood. Time Warner Book Group. ISBN 0-446-52770-X.

The only thing they told us was, 'Don't tell anyone you're from New York,'" says Gregg. "We used the cover story that my mother and sister came up with -- that my father worked for the government." Henry Hill wrote in his 1994 book Gangsters and Goodfellas that Tommy DeSimone tried to rape Karen while Hill was in jail. [4] Karen was meanwhile having an affair with Vario. After DeSimone attempted to rape Karen, [5] one theory is that Vario reportedly took revenge by telling the Gambino crime family that DeSimone was the one who killed made man Billy Batts. They in turn killed DeSimone. [6] Later life [ edit ] Henry died on June 12, 2012, at the age of 69, from heart failure in Los Angeles. [10] Portrayal in media [ edit ] Hill formed a friendship with Liotta during production on Goodfellas and the pair are understood to have maintained a close relationship up until the mob informant's death in 2012. They are seen together in 2004In fact, in his 2004 book Gangsters and Goodfellas: The Mob, Witness Protection, and Life on the Run, Hill recounted a conversation he had with a friend about his second marriage - in which he insisted that it didn't count as 'bigamy' because he had tied the knot, not as Henry Hill, but as Martin Lewis. No, that's Henry Hill who's married,' he told a confidante when told he had committed a 'major crime' by taking a second wife. 'I'm Marty Lewis, and this is my first wife. So it's cool.' They recognised him before he saw them and demanded to be let off the flight. Had they not got off they would have been subject to a certain death sentence.
