About this deal

They perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing, ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers, and in some cases selecting advertisements that are based on your interests. As in the days before the widespread availability of plastic kits, armies consist of 30–40 infantry with maybe a vehicle as a centrepiece.

Jackie: The thing about the other blue book series rulesets, because I think they all follow a similar format and lay out: I am not a fan of that. The rules are generally great, a fantastic set of strong bones you’ll be able to play with and enjoy time and time again, but where the system really takes off is the flesh that fills out the bones – the weird, wonderful and intuitive list and unit construction that I don’t think you’d ever really get tired of. Each unit uses a different archetype, but also fights very differently – and fluff appropriately – based on their abilities.Weird War settings are well serviced in Xenos Rampant, So these British Automatons might see the table! So if you want to use your 90es Grimdark miniatures or your shiny new multipart plastic soldiers, you are free to do so.

There’s a little campaign system which is light enough to link up a couple of games and gives you some things to play around with. Xenos rules include a set of psychic powers, rules for zombies or other brittle, mindless styles, zealous crusaders, high-tech weaponry or cloaking devices, force fields, powered weapons, robots and paratroopers.Over the past month or so the Table One regulars (Mike Willis, Chris Gibson and myself) have been playing a few games of Xenos Rampant, a draft sci-fi adaptation of the Dragon Rampant rules.

So, whatever your science fiction preference, the rules can cover it - just let your imagination run rampant. Just by looking at the stats you’ve got a unit of pike, you’ve got a unit of musketeers, forlorn hope, different types of cavalry… You can tweak that a little bit but the basics are solid and you still retain that feel. Xenos Rampant is a setting agnostic, large skirmish, miniature wargame for fighting science fiction battles using 28mm figures. Everything is exactly where it should be, you’re not flicking back and forth, you can go through the turn sequence to do a demo turn and everything’s in the right place. You’ve got boasts, you’ve got more scenarios than in the first book and you can individualise your leader. If we’re all lucky, Xenos Rampant will become a solid fixture of games nights and the wider community space – as a game, and as a system to get us playing with our favourite minis in whatever worlds of Scifi we care to explore, it deserves it.
